- When performing an author search you may add multiple authors by separating each name with a semi-colon ";".
- [MANTIS ONLY] Use wildcards (an asterisk) to search within a specific publication if you are not certain of the journal's full title (e.g. "*spine*"). If a wildcard is not used, the engine will search for a journal with the exact title as entered.
- Use wildcards (an asterisk) to search for multiple terms with the same spelling (e.g. "manip*" will include any Medical Subject Heading or text word that begins with the letters "manip"; so the search will include "manipulation, chiropractic" and "manipulation, orthopedic" among others).

A Special Message to My Chiropractic Colleagues
From FCER President Charles R. Herring, DC As clinicians, you and I are now being confronted with the expectation that treatment must be based on scientific evidence. And whether we agree, evidence-based practice, practice guidelines and best practices treatment approaches are now all but required in treating our patients. Evidence-based practice encourages us to consider the best available evidence when making clinical decisions about diagnosis and treatment of each patient. We then combine that evidence with our training and experience as well as our patient’s preferences. FCER Comes to the Aid of the Clinician At FCER, we asked ourselves, "How does the busy clinician find the time to search the volumes of literature, read and assimilate the information, and then apply it to each patient?" We answered that question by creating our international Evidence-Based Resource Center (EB-RC) that includes this web site, DCConsultSM. Our new site provides you and others worldwide with condition-specific reviews ready for your immediate use. Each review includes: • information about prevention, diagnosis and treatment options, and,Should you have a need to search for additional information from sources such as Medline and MANTISTM, you can do so while logged on here. Many future enhancements to this site are in development to offer you; • up-to-date literature in areas that most interest youFCER's Goal Is to Help Improve Patient Care As you become more familiar with DCConsultSM, I know you will agree that this FCER-developed resource will enhance your evidence-based practice, all for your patients’ benefit. We invite you to explore the almost unlimited practice resources now available to you at DCConsultSM.
I am extremely impressed with DCConsult. For many years, doing an online search was torture for me, but now, it is extremely easy. You simply type in the name of a condition, an author or publication and that information is instantly displayed. From there, you can easily find related materials, current articles, treatment papers related to that condition and a great deal more information. DCConsult is exactly what the profession and individual DCs have been waiting for – an authoritative and practical web-based method of translating ongoing research into information that can be used in management of patients in daily practice. Thanks to all who are providing the huge resources required. Every DC should try it – and then wonder how he or she survived before. I feel that the DCConsult web site will give the field clinician a very honest evaluation of the recommended treatment for specific problems they encounter in their practices. I also noted it is very easy to navigate and will not intimidate anyone. It is important to understand that DCConsult is a valuable resource for clinicians to use in practice. The site gives you the specific information related to a condition, and the literature has been prepared in a manner that you don’t need to go everywhere to find it, review it, and then attempt to understand it. Additionally, I think about the impact that this will have on our ability to communicate with the insurance industry and others who may sit in judgment of why we are choosing certain treatments. Finally, I think it is important to understand that FCER is providing this information to college students and faculty to help the newest members of this profession be better prepared to deal with insurance companies, the public and others who may refer patients to our offices. Thank you, FCER. With the development of DCConsult, the profession now has the resource to communicate the existing knowledge of our treatment protocols with evidence. With the ability to instantly access the literature by condition, this service will expand our effectiveness with patients, the public and third parties. As a chiropractor, DCConsult is one of the most effective tools for my success. Now I am able to have the research and evidence of chiropractic care at my fingertips. I am convinced that in order for chiropractic to advance, we need to show the validity in what we do. Now we can! |
